Biography
Aunger witnessed a local deed in December 1388. He seems to have succeeded Robert Draper* as mayor during the latter’s term of office in 1396, some time between 13 Jan., when Draper was still mayor, and 30 May when Aunger himself served in that capacity on a commission of gaol delivery. It is, however, quite possible that Aunger and Draper were one and the same man, especially as Aunger was engaged in the cloth trade, and might therefore have been known as ‘draper’. In 1395-6 he was assessed for alnage at Bath on 20 ‘dozens’.2
