Biography
Canon attested the Dunwich parliamentary returns of 1421 (May), 1426, 1431 and 1433, on the last occasion acting as mainpernor for one of those elected. In April 1427 he was paying 1d. rent for a shop in Dunwich, and continued to lease this property until 1434. He also held a messuage and land worth 13d. He is mentioned in petty cases heard in the borough court between 1428 and 1434.1
He may be identified with Philip Canon ‘of Beccles’, whose will was proved at Ipswich between 1444 and 1455.2
