Biography
Graves was a weaver who acquired leases of some former chantry property in the county. His property in York was at St. Saviour’s gate, Markgate and Castlegate. In 1576 he was unsuccessful in a contested election for the mayoralty. When he achieved the office two years later, his means were insufficient and the city council awarded him a grant of £30. He died 20 Nov. 1588 and was buried at All Saints Pavement. His will was made 16 June 1584 and proved 2 July 1589.
