Biography
No Henry Vincent having been found among the Vincent families of Cornwall, this Member has been sought outside the county. The most likely person to have been the MP is Henry Vincent of Barnack, whose brother Thomas, the head of the house, held land in Northamptonshire, but had removed to Surrey and become a justice of the peace there by 1582. The land in Northamptonshire was sold, some of it to Thomas Vincent’s near neighbour, Lord Burghley, and Barnack itself passed to Burghley’s son, Thomas Cecil, Earl of Exeter, before 1613. Vincent’s father had appointed Burghley an overseer of his will, and these connexions with the Cecil family may supply an explanation for Vincent’s return at St. Mawes in 1593.
