Biography
Slingsby was returned for Knaresborough on his father’s interest in 1685, but was appointed to no committees in James II’s Parliament. The King’s agents reported in September 1688 that Knaresborough ‘will choose Sir Henry Slingsby and William Stockdale, both good men’. He was ordered to stand again for the borough, but at the end of the 1689 election he did not appear, and the double return in 1690 was decided against him. He was presumably a non-juror, as his name does not appear on the 1690 commission of the peace. He was buried at Knaresborough on 15 Sept. 1691. His nephew was first returned for the family borough as a Tory in 1714 and became a prominent Jacobite.
