Biography
Francis Herbert, the father of Henry Arthur and Richard Herbert, was a staunch Whig, owning estates in South Shropshire and Montgomeryshire, with a considerable interest in the boroughs of Ludlow and Montgomery. In 1715 he unsuccessfully contested Montgomery Boroughs against an alliance of Tory patrons, but was returned for Ludlow. He is not recorded as voting in the new Parliament but was listed as against the peerage bill by Craggs in 1719. He died 27 Feb. 1719.
