Biography
Returned as a Tory for Launceston in 1715 on the recommendation of George Granville, M.P., 1st Lord Lansdowne,1 Herle is not recorded as voting. Described as ‘a gentleman of bright parts, a lovely aspect, and admired and esteemed by all’, but ‘miserably tormented by the gout, so as to be a perfect cripple with it’,2 he died 14 Apr. 1721.
