Biography
Descended from Sir Francis Knollys, treasurer of the Household to Queen Elizabeth, Knollys was returned as a Tory for Oxford in 1722.
Our Member for the town [an Oxford don wrote] was chosen yesterday, without opposition, a young gentleman, unmarried, of £1,700 per annum, and money in his pocket. His name Knollys, a relation of Tom Rowney’s and brought in by his interest.2
Re-elected in 1727, he was one of the defaulters on the call of the House on 13 Mar. 1733 when, his excuse not being allowed, he was taken into custody by the serjeant-at-arms. He was thus prevented from taking part in the division of 15 Mar. on the excise bill, but having been discharged on the 16th he voted against the bill on the report stage.3 No other vote of his is recorded. He did not stand in 1734, and died 24 June 1754.
