Biography
Stepney married the co-heiress of a branch of the Vaughans of Golden Grove, who had represented Carmarthenshire in most Parliaments during the seventeenth century. Returned unopposed as a Whig in succession to the Marquess of Winchester (Charles Powlett), who had married the heiress of the main branch of the family, he voted against the Government on the repeal of the Occasional Conformity and Schism Acts and the peerage bill in 1719, when he was put down by Craggs as to be approached through Lord William Powlett. He did not stand again. He was buried 19 Jan. 1745, aged 76.
