Biography
Marrying into a wealthy Newcastle merchant family, Wrightson settled in the town.1 Returned for Newcastle as a Tory in 1710, he voted against the Administration in every recorded division after George I’s accession. His name was sent to the Pretender in 1721 as a supporter in the event of a rising to restore the Stuarts.2 Defeated for Newcastle in 1722, he was returned in 1723 for the county, where his second wife had considerable estates. Unseated on petition in 1724, he did not stand again, dying 4 Dec. 1760, aged 84.
