Biography
Seymour Conway was elected without opposition at Coventry in 1783; he did not vote on Shelburne’s peace preliminaries but voted for Fox’s East India bill, 27 Nov. 1783. At the general election of 1784 he stood at Coventry on a joint interest with Lord Sheffield, but came out bottom of the poll. On 26 July 1784 he contested the by-election at Downton where his brother Henry had stood at the general election; as before, two polls were taken by two returning officers and two candidates returned. Seymour Conway was declared duly elected on 11 Mar.
He voted against the Duke of Richmond’s fortifications plan, 27 Feb. 1786; for Impey’s impeachment, 9 May 1788; and against Pitt’s Regency proposals; but is not known to have spoken in the House before 1790.
He died 31 Jan. 1837.
