Biography
As anticipated, Wood was returned by his father for his borough of Gatton, entailed on him, not long after he came of age. He followed his father’s line of supporting the Liverpool administration. No speech in the House is known, but he voted with ministers on the Irish vice-treasurership, 20 June 1816, on the operation of the suspension of habeas corpus, 10, 11 Feb., and on the ducal marriage grants, 15 Apr. 1818. No other votes of his are known, so he did not attend as regularly as his father, who did not return him (or himself) in 1818. Evidently he was not interested in politics. An obituary stated that he was ‘much attached to the sport of the Turf, of which he was a constant and liberal patron; and has left a large and valuable breeding stud’. He died 4 Aug. 1837, leaving an ‘infant family’, but no son, whereupon the baronetcy became extinct.
