Biography
Nicholas Herbert was born at Werrington, Devon, at the house of his brother-in-law Sir Nicholas Morice. Returned for Newport in 1740 on the Morice interest in succession to his brother Thomas, he was absent from the divisions on the place bill in 1740 and the chairman of the elections committee 1741, was summoned to the Cockpit meeting in October 1742 through John Scrope, and voted with the Administration on the Hanoverians in 1742, 1744 and 1746. He was classed as a government supporter in 1747.
He died 1 Feb. 1775.
