Biography
A Tory, but not a Jacobite, Twisden obtained an army commission in 1736 which he resigned on succeeding his brother next year. Returned unopposed for the county in 1741, he voted with the Opposition. During the Forty-five he served in the Kent militia, becoming a captain in 1746. He was again unopposed in 1747, but declined standing in 1754 because of ill-health.1 Between 1761 and 1768 he made several unsuccessful attempts to secure his eldest son’s return for Kent.
He died 7 Mar. 1772.
